Your Key Responsibilities

Summary of The Role   We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer (4+ years) to help build and maintain our new, cloud-native digital-healthcare platform and take ownership of our existing (legacy) system — supporting it and leading its migration onto the new platform. The ideal candidate is strong across the full stack in a modern TypeScript codebase, has solid Java / Spring Boot experience to own and migrate the legacy application, is hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and is comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate delivery. This is regulated healthcare software, so care with data, security and correctness matters.  Role Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain web applications using React + Vite + TypeScript (SPAs) on the front end.
  • Build backend services in NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) — a microservices architecture with a shared contracts layer.
  • Build and optimise database schemas, queries and migrations on PostgreSQL (with Prisma ORM; Row-Level Security for tenant isolation).
  • Support and maintain the legacy Java / Spring Boot system, and lead its migration into the new platform — mapping legacy schemas/logic to the new services, writing and running data migrations, and managing a safe cutover.
  • Take part in a structured handover of the legacy system and become its point of ownership.
  • Deploy and operate services on GCP via CI/CD, and help keep the infrastructure-as-code healthy.
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (Claude Code) for development, code review, debugging and documentation.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code (unit + integration, including real-database tests) following best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, clinical, QA), participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical planning.

Required Skill and Qualifications

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript (our front ends are React + Vite).
  • Backend experience with Node.js, ideally NestJS (Express/Fastify/Nest all welcome).
  • Java and Spring Boot — enough to own, support and migrate our legacy system (Spring MVC/Data/JPA, REST APIs).
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) — deploying and operating services (e.g. Cloud Run, Cloud SQL); comfortable with CI/CD (we use GitHub Actions).
  • Solid PostgreSQL — schema design, query optimisation, and migrations (ORM experience: Prisma / Hibernate / TypeORM).
  • Hands-on data-migration experience — moving data and logic between systems/schemas with correctness and rollback in mind.
  • Hands-on experience using AI development tools (Claude or similar) as part of the engineering workflow.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, Git, and modern development workflows; experience in agile teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
  • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform / OpenTofu) and deeper GCP services (Load Balancer, Secret Manager, Pub/Sub).
  • Experience in regulated or healthcare software (UK GDPR, clinical safety, CQC/GPhC, NHS integrations).
  • OIDC/OAuth auth, Stripe (payments), event-driven systems (Pub/Sub / message queues).
  • An eye for accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) and well-documented, tested code.
