Your Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the annual budget and rolling forecasts with the CFO and department heads, gathering inputs, constructively challenging assumptions and ensuring delivery to deadlines.
- Build and maintain driver-based financial models linking revenue, staffing, operating costs, capital expenditure, debt covenants and cash flow, with clear assumptions, checks and version control.
- Analyse actual performance against budget, forecast and prior periods, explaining underlying drivers, quantifying risks and opportunities, and recommending practical actions.
- Analyse performance by individual location, region, service type, funder and service user, including occupancy, placements, fee rates and uplifts, care hours, staffing costs, agency usage and profitability.
- Build insightful Power BI dashboards and reports that allow users to explore performance, identify trends and exceptions, and understand the actions required.
- Work with the Financial Controller and operational teams to reconcile financial and operational data, resolve discrepancies and maintain consistent KPI definitions and reliable reporting.
- Partner with senior leadership on scenarios and sensitivities, including occupancy ramp-up, fee uplifts, wage inflation, staffing mix and opening delays, explaining the impact on profit, cash flow and funding requirements.
- Build investment appraisals for properties to be acquired or developed, covering acquisition or development costs, refurbishment, opening costs, occupancy ramp-up, operating performance, working capital and cash requirements.
- Assess investment viability using discounted cash flow, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), payback and break-even analysis, including downside scenarios and their impact on forecast covenant headroom.
- Support monthly management, Board and investor reporting through concise commentary, charts and analysis. Track agreed actions and compare the performance of new locations against their approved investment cases.
- Improve financial planning and reporting processes through Excel, Power Query and appropriate automation.
- Handle sensitive employee, customer and commercial data carefully, using approved systems and access controls.
Required Skill and Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of directly relevant FP&A or commercial finance experience, ideally five or more years, with demonstrable ownership of financial models, budgets and forecasts.
- Proven ability to build financial models from scratch, including driver-based forecasts, scenario analysis and investment appraisals, with the ability to explain assumptions and validate outputs.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables and Power Query, with a strong understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow relationships.
- Hands-on experience building effective Power BI dashboards, including data modelling, DAX, data preparation and refresh processes.
- Strong analytical judgement, with the ability to turn detailed data into clear insights and recommendations rather than simply produce reports.
- Strong written and spoken English, confident stakeholder communication skills and the ability to work remotely with department heads and senior leaders during UK business hours.
- CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent qualification, or finalist status, preferred. Candidates qualified by experience will also be considered where they demonstrate strong accounting knowledge and proven financial modelling capability.
- Experience building and maintaining financial models across multiple sites, branches or business units, including analysis of individual-unit and consolidated performance.
- High attention to detail, reliable delivery and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Experience with Sage 200, SQL or integrating operational and financial datasets would be beneficial.
