Your Key Responsibilities

Summary of The Role  This role is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with UK accounting and tax regulations, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records. The Bookkeeper will play a vital role in supporting the UK finance team by handling bookkeeping, VAT, payroll while liaising with HMRC and external accountants as required.  Role Responsibilities 
  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, receivable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries using Xero.  
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with UK tax requirements.  
  • Administer payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK legislation.  
  • Reconcile accounts and maintain up-to-date ledgers for accurate financial tracking.  
  • Liaise directly with HMRC on financial, tax, or payroll matters.  
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required for year-end reporting and submission to external accountants.  
  • Monitor and manage aged debtors and accounts payable, following up promptly to ensure timely settlements.  
  • Support management with monthly and quarterly financial reports, cash flow forecasting, and budget tracking.  
  • Ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance across all financial documentation and processes.  
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives to streamline financial operations.  

Required Skill and Qualifications

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience  
  • Minimum of 4 years’ accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably with UK-based clients.  
  • Proficiency in Xero and strong working knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems.  
  • Solid understanding of UK accounting principles, VAT, payroll. 
  • Experience in preparing and reconciling management accounts and supporting year-end processes. 
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 
  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and time management. 
Desirable Qualifications  
  • AAT / ACCA / ACA qualification or equivalent (or part-qualified). 
  • Prior experience liaising with UK accountants or HMRC. 
  • Experience in the constru ction or property maintenance sector is an advantage.

  • General Work Hours: Between 12.30PM – 10.30PM (WFH) Sri Lanka Time – 45hrs/week.
  • Location: Remote WFH + Occasional Meets at our Colombo 5 office – Sri Lanka.
