Your Key Responsibilities

Summary of The Role   The Management Accountant is responsible for managing the company's financial reporting function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of management accounts, project reporting, and financial analysis. This role supports effective financial management by preparing monthly management accounts, monitoring project profitability, managing cash flow reporting, and ensuring compliance with UK construction accounting requirements.   The position works closely with the Directors, external accountants, and internal finance team to provide reliable financial information that supports commercial decision-making and business growth. Strong analytical skills, construction industry accounting experience, and the ability to meet strict monthly reporting deadlines are essential for success in this role.  Role Responsibilities 
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, cash flow reporting, work in progress (WIP), accruals, and financial analysis. 
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial planning in collaboration with the Directors. 
  • Produce project cost and margin reports, maintaining accurate job costing across multiple contracts within Xero. 
  • Monitor project costs against budgets throughout the lifecycle of each project and identify financial variances. 
  • Prepare monthly CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns and manage subcontractor verification processes. 
  • Prepare VAT returns in accordance with UK statutory requirements. 
  • Perform supplier account reconciliations and support credit control activities to maintain healthy cash flow. 
  • Process payroll and prepare RTI submissions, ensuring payroll information is accurate prior to payment approval. 
  • Monitor and report on company cash flow, providing regular insights to support business planning. 
  • Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts by working closely with external accountants. 
  • Collaborate with the in-house bookkeeper to ensure the accuracy of financial records, reconciliations, and reporting. 
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes, controls, and operational efficiencies. 
  • Work collaboratively with Directors and internal stakeholders to support commercial decision-making and business performance. 

Required Skill and Qualifications

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience 
  • Qualified or part-qualified Accountant, or equivalent experience in management accounting. 
  • Previous experience within the UK construction industry, with a strong understanding of construction accounting principles. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software. 
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting. 
  • Sound knowledge of CIS administration, subcontractor verification, and UK construction accounting requirements. 
  • Experience with retentions accounting, valuations, applications for payment, and work in progress (WIP) reporting. 
  • Strong project costing and job costing experience across multiple concurrent contracts. 
  • Experience preparing UK VAT returns and managing VAT compliance. 
  • Experience processing UK payroll and RTI submissions. 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical and reporting capabilities. 
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet strict monthly reporting deadlines. 
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • General Work Hours: Between 12.30PM – 10.30PM (WFH) Sri Lanka Time – 45hrs/week.
